Journey to Adulthood
Journey to Adulthood (J2A) is a complete youth ministry program of spiritual formation for 6th – 12th grades. It uses Bible study, prayer, rites of passage, outreach ministries and both serious and playful activities to underscore its core messages that manhood and womanhood are free gifts from God and adulthood must be earned.
There are three segments of the program that each last two years:
Rite-13: The first two years (6th & 7th or 7th & 8th graders) that focus on celebrating the individuality of each young person and their creative potential. The Rite-13 liturgy (A celebration of Manhood and Womanhood) is the community expression of this.
J2A: The middle portion of the program (8th & 9th or 9th and 10th graders), engages youth with the skills and critical thinking involved in adulthood. The youth plan and embark on a pilgrimage together at the end of this segment.
YAC (Young Adults in the Church): A mentor-based program that helps upper high school students to discern and carry out a ministry within their church or in the larger community. Vocation and development of a personal credo are also emphasized. This is the final stage of Journey to Adulthood. In addition the YAC class prepares for their confirmation.
St. Paul’s Youth Ministry exists to encourage spiritual growth through praising God, strengthening our beliefs, discovering our gifts, caring for each other and reaching out into our community.
Our youth program while separate from the Journey to Adulthood (J2A) ministry shares the same young people. Both ministries help our youth grow in their faith while one has more focus on fun and fellowship and the other in gaining knowledge to further their understanding of God’s call. They are both important to the life of our youth ministries.
Youth meet occasionally for activities such as bowling, movie nights and community service. The activities often begin with dinner and followed by a topic for discussion, and then some fun fellowship time. Youth in 6th grade and up are welcome to attend youth events.
Every other year, youth aged 14 and up, plan and go on a mission trip out of the Evansville area. Past mission trips have been to Grahn, KY where youth washed and painted a community center. Afterwards they traveled to West Virginia for White Water Rafting.
